Feng sent this photo for translation, taken at 60 HongLanGan Jie (60 Red Railing St.) 红栏杆街60号.
The information I gathered, mostly from industrie.lu (and artnet.com) showed that it was a German company, existed from 1877 to 1993:
- 1877, Founded as Lamberty Servais & Co in Ehrang Germany by Trier
- 1881, Paul Servais (1848-1908) was the eldest son of Philippe Servais, married to Marie (Missy) Collart
- 1902, Took the name of Vereinigte Servais-Werke AG
- 1993, factory closed
Ehrang is a small town in Trier, Germany, a Moselle wine region that bordering Luxembourg, and France, 125 miles west of Frankfurt. Some the tiles they produced were really beautiful – the following three photos are from industrie.lu:
Katya Knyazeva posted a similar photo on Flickr on 2010.7.13, taken at HonglanGang Street 红栏杆街, without street number. She also took the cat photo, “Melancholic white cat living inside a beautiful courtyard house at 55 Caojia Jie.” 曹家街55号, the Chee Hsin tiles were #109/#159. Per Feng: 曹家街目前还没拆,离红栏杆街有点距离的, and “Guangfu Nong floor in the house” 广福弄/广福寺. “These three linked lane houses at Guangfu Nong are only steps away from the gateway of the fake Old Shanghai street (poor Fangbang Zhong Lu 方浜中路).”
