Today’s BBC News says word war  is a taboo in Russia now. It’s a special operation in Ukraine. One man mission and no one in Russia can stop him from doing such horrible thing. This is pretty much the book Deng Xiaoping is about: Deng had so many good ideas and intentions but he couldn’t fight off Chairman Mao – no one could, and we suffered gravely. Class struggle, more struggle and none stop struggle. I feel humiliated and ashamed to share how we Chinese lived with the world.

When the book came out, I couldn’t wait to start reading because I wanted to know HOW and where could a foreigner get so much material and access to write a bio of Deng, a larger-than-life little man? As it turned out, he didn’t have much material to write with.

I stopped at when he described that Zhang Yufeng “was attractive, intellectually sophisticated and political astute….” intellectually sophisticated  WHOM was he KIDDING??? She was a train waitress, one of Mao’s mistresses and got on with him longer than many, till he died. Intellectually sophisticated is the last thing I expected from her.

This is the second time I picked up the book. I’m at 38% and having hard time to continue: boring, tasteless, nonsense and repetitious.

前不久一朋友炒冷饭 贴了马勇老师 “邓小平”2011中文出版时的书评. 因此俺第二次开始听.

第一次停 因为三个问题
1. 他一个外国人 从哪里找到这么多资料?!? 这也是我想看这本书的原因.
2. 他描写张玉凤 (1945-) … “she was attractive, intellectually sophisticated and political astute….” 知识渊博 😂😂😂 are you kidding?!? 啥地方进水了吧?
3. 屈辱. 邓公几上几下 … 有很多好主意带他的人民奔小康. 怎么就不被容纳 要下地狱? 难道勤奋 聪明 任劳任怨的中国人就不配过好日子吗? 毫无逻辑 不可理喻 阶级斗争 运动运动再运动 … 家丑不可外扬 – 自己在家里屈辱就好了 通过这本书全世界都知道 我们过的这么屈辱 卑微

写作 – 马马虎虎 味同嚼蜡. “代表中国政府劝越南… ” (废话连篇 – 难道他自己跑到越南去献计?) 重复重复再重复. 日子 日期 年月 啥付市长那年那月那日出国考察也要写上一句. 然而林付主席之死 一笔带过…

最近经过高人点 才知道白左傅高义 是被🇨🇳请来写的. 看到许多国内历史学家看不到的资料 (崇洋媚外) 为什么要自己作贱自己?

称职的传记作家/作品都会在前言里阐述 为什么写 怎么写 … 老傅没有 – 是不是有苦难言? 有限的资料写一个 larger-than-life 无限复杂的人不容易但也可以接这个活儿嘛. 老傅 👎
中国的外国友人永远都是座上客 – 崇洋媚外 缺少自信. 牛的传记作家大概不会接这个活儿.

📖 … 还没听完. 闷到俺常常开小叉才听到38%. 希望会坚持到5月35号后.

是呀 虽然俺喜欢捡破烂 (自家里的事儿 没人知道嘛)但在国际友人面前 俺还是要面子的. 看他在本书后 在外国友人面前自觉矮人半截 – 屈辱呀
