The earliest ancestor on the Zhou branch was Zhou Yao 周繇 (841-912). There isn’t much info on him. He obtained his prestigious jinshi degree in 872, and was a prominent figure in literature in Chizhou, where he was. However, there is a claim that troubles me, i.e., from Baidu:
周繇为清封疆大吏周馥6世祖 …
Which translates to Zhou Yao was the 6th ancestor of Zhou Fu …
Zhou Fu (1837-1921) was my great great grandfather, 五世祖. How on earth that Zhou Yao was Zhou Fu’s 六世祖 when they were born 996 years apart?
