Shanghai, Covid in 2023

New York Times, March 17, 2023, WHO Accuses China of Withholding Data on Covid’s Origins,

Genetic research from China suggests to some experts that the coronavirus may have sprung from a seafood market in Wuhan. Now the data are missing from a scientific database.

I posted Chinese version of this on WeChat with my comment “胡言乱语 – 一直觉得 武汉实验室用过的动物被 非法卖到华南海鲜市场…不一定是实验员 而是实验室里的杂工 – 毫无根据纯属异想天开” which means: My nonsense – I always felt that the animals used in the Wuhan laboratory were illegally sold to the South China Seafood Market…not necessarily the experimenters, but the handymen in the laboratory – baseless and purely whimsical

There is only comment, “美国人没事找事干!” Google translates, “Americans have nothing to do!”

I’m super surprised by the comment, given the background of the commenter. She was born, raised and worked in Shanghai. Worked as a teacher / professor at a well known university, does her own research of old constructions since her retirement, was in Shanghai during its lockdown in 2022. … And she thinks it was the ugly Americans who stirs up the covid-19 controversy …

One interesting fact in the report, is the Director-General of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (1965-). If my memory serves me right, he initially helped China to hide the fact, then defended China’s conduct. Now he thinks otherwise. Is he qualified for the job?
