I still remembered the cover story <em>Time<\/em> magazine did in 1997: The Next China &#8211; Will Deng&#8217;s heirs turn Beijing into a superpower the world can love?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jiang Zemin (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jiang_Zemin\">1926<\/a>-) lively<\/li>\n<li>Hu Jintao (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hu_Jintao\">1924<\/a>-) mummy<\/li>\n<li>Xi Jinping (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Xi_Jinping\">1953<\/a>-) can you name that movie?<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Are any of them to your liking?<\/p>\n<p>Hu Yaobang (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hu_Yaobang\">1915<\/a>-89) and\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1em;\">Zhao Ziyang (<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zhao_Ziyang\">1919<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1em;\">-2005) although much loved but their titles didn&#8217;t seem to translate directly &#8230;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Deng strong armed the Iron Lady Mrs. Margaret Thatcher, in returning Hong Kong to China in 1997. \u00a0Although Deng didn&#8217;t live to see the handover but his legacy lived on, as most people in China, have favorable view of him today.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ireneeng.com\/?p=2848\">Vogel&#8217;s book<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u9093\u7237\u8fc7\u4e16\u540e \u8bb0\u5f97\u65f6\u4ee3\u5468\u520a\u4e0b\u4e00\u671f\u7528\u4ed6\u505a\u5c01\u9762 \u95ee &#8220;\u4e0b\u4e00\u4e2a\u4e2d\u56fd\u2013\u9093\u5c0f\u5e73\u7684\u7ee7\u627f\u4eba\u4f1a\u628a\u5317\u4eac\u53d8\u6210\u4e16\u754c\u6240\u7231\u7684\u8d85\u7ea7\u5927\u56fd\u5417?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u5bb9\u4ffa\u60f3\u60f3<\/p>\n<p>\u6c5f\u6cfd\u6c11: \u6d3b\u6cfc<br \/>\n\u80e1\u9526\u6d9b: \u6728\u4e43\u4f0a<br \/>\n\u4e60\u5927\u5927: \u5565\u5565\ud83c\udfac<\/p>\n<p>\u60a8\u559c\u6b22\u54ea\u4e00\u4e2a\uff1f<\/p>\n<p>\u9093\u7237\u90a3\u4e48\u80f8\u6709\u6210\u7af9 \u628a\u4e2a\u82f1\u56fd\u7684\u94c1\u5a18\u5b50\u641e\u5f97\u63aa\u624b\u4e0d\u53ca \u867d\u7136\u6ca1\u6709\u7b49\u5230\u4e94\u661f\u7ea2\u65d7\u5347\u8d77\u5728\u9999\u6e2f \u4f46\u662f24\u5e74\u540e\u591a\u6570\ud83c\udde8\ud83c\uddf3\u4eba\u6c11\u90fd\u6000\u5ff5\u4ed6 \u8fd9\u5e94\u8be5\u662f\u6700\u597d\u7684\u76d6\u68fa\u5b9a\u8bba\uff1f<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is the 24th anniversary of Deng&#8217;s passing.
