Next thing we knew was fire trucks surrounded the consulate because of the burning went on inside. And two days later, China ordered <a href=\"https:\/\/china.usembassy-china.org.cn\/our-relationship\/cg-chengdu\/\">American consulate<\/a> in Chengdu to close. (Aside from the embassy in Beijing, US has five consulates, Guangzhou,\u00a0Shanghai, Wuhan and Shenyang.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ireneeng.com\/?p=2169\">Chinese Legation &amp; Embassy in DC<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What&#8217;s followed is amusing: <em>Moments<\/em>, my friends circle on WeChat are filled with postings (in Chinese, obviously) about Chengdu consulate, from consul Jim Mullinax&#8217;s heartwarming good bye, Chinese name (\u6797\u6770\u4f1f), his time in China as youth, the herb garden at the consulate, his two young sons, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ireneeng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/IMG_1800.jpg\">his wife<\/a> &#8211; oh, of course there is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weibo.com\/zhuangzuyi\">his wife&#8217;s blog<\/a> where we learnt something about her, her experience as the wife of a diplomat, her love for food, her street music playing gig, her beautiful mother, her kitchen, &#8230; even the chef
