I read Hillbilly Elegy when it was published in 2016: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis, by J.D. Vance (1984-). He’s from Appalachian / Kentucky, and got his law degree from Yale in 2013. The book was made into an Oscan-nominated film in 2020. He was officially nominated as ex-president Donald Trump’s running mate, two days after Trump was being shot.
The movie was directed by Ron Howard, actors included Glenn Close, Amy Adams… distributed by NetFlex.
This morning, I started seeing the link to the film in WeChat. I’m no expert on this, but wondering if these Chinese posts are using authorized link? The irony is, I’m counting my pennies, quarters, to determine which streaming service I would sign up, while people in China, generally get to watch pretty much everything for free.
By the way, it’s an up day for DOW, down day for NFLX $656.32, -0.13
