Sam’s Club

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports, View from Bottom

You go SAM .. Sam Querrey. The stadium is rocking and he is doing fine. Won the second set 7:5, and just broke Nadal back at 4:4 and just held serve, leading 5:4 the third set.
The American sport commentators are fair and most of them are worldly. I just couldn’t forget one tourney that held [...]

Trading chess futures

Published by The Kibbitzer under Current Affairs

The 17 years old Norwegian Magnus Carlsen is taking the chess world by storm.  17!  From Norway.  Ranked 6th in the world, with men old enough to be his father.  could be #1 if he wins the Grand Slam Chess Final Masters on Tuesday in Bilbao, Spain.
“Whatever its benefits, his education is probably not the key [...]

Fish vs Monkey

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports

Mardy Fish of USA is playing Gael Monfils of France.  I like Monfils: loose, casual and acrobatic, can probably scale the Mount Marcy or Algonquin Peak Summit like a monkey.  Fish serves and volleys .. so I’m for the American while Pumpkin is for the Acrobat.  Mardy is leading two sets to love.
French male tennis players have been [...]

Michelle Obama is ..

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

1. It sounds like the over used term ‘classy’ [...]

Men’s doubles final

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports

What a surprise that CBS is broadcasting it live.  Too bad neither Mark Knowles nor Justin Gimelstob made it this far with their respective partners, or the pinky cheeked Bryan bros.  The winners will split $400k and runner ups perhaps half of that.  One of the four players, Pavel Vizner of Czech is grand 37 years old.  [...]

The journeyman

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports

The two doubles matches at Louis Armstrong stadium were more interesting than the singles at the center court, not all baseline.  I first saw Mark Knowles in Dec 1992 when he turned pro, at the Bahamian Open (yes, there’s a such thing), Aaron Krickstein was there too.  Over the years, Mark never rose higher than [...]

US Open .. the girls

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports

Do girls dress up at Flushing Meadow?  My random takes, missed few Park Avenue princess, :).  Serena was like sleep walk, as if she didn’t want to be there.  But managed to win in 2 sets.  Justin Gimelstob won his doubles in 2 sets too.  The crowds loved him.  The fun part of the [...]
