Trattoria Dell’arte

Published by The Kibbitzer under Seefood Diet n Wine

A decent Tuscany restaurant adjacent to Carnegie Hall.  I go there whenever I’m in the neighborhood. Food is very reliable and I like the way they serve wine by the glass.

Blessed in Triplicate

So three times‘ charm? Michael Rubens Bloomberg is seeking to be reelected for the third time as New York City mayor. Why bother to change the law? Run for president! Look at the two candidates on hand and the strange campaigns they run, I would love to vote for Bloomberg!!  Lord, US is domed.

[You] go back to China

Before the concert at Carnegie Hall, I stopped by Trader Joe’s on 14th Street at 3rd Ave. I didn’t have much time having stopped at Veniero’s (14 numbers were waiting) too.
I have first shopped at Trader Joe’s was at Seattle, in a small shopping mall with plenty parking space. Never visited one in New York until [...]

Go for it

Michael R. Bloomberg, who brought New York back to life after 9/11 is seeking his third term as mayor of New York. YESSSSSIR, you go skipper. We could use couple of more terms. I remembered when Ronald Reagan gave his exit interview with one of the major networks, he ruefully said, that he would, if [...]

My constant companions

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

After a soaking wet weekend - three days in a row, I couldn’t wait to see a cerulean blue sky. Autumn in New York is very beautiful, so is in Beijing. It’s the hiking season, see the foliage!

Spicy King 湖南湘菜馆

Published by The Kibbitzer under Seefood Diet n Wine

It’s the first in New York.  Down to earth price, $20 for dinner, there isn’t much to write about, except the food is pretty good. 35-34 Farrington Street in Flushing, right off Northern Blvd.  Street parking.  The liver is good. 水煮鱼 isn’t as salty as Sichuan style, which is good.

Final Week at Shea

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports, View from Bottom

Tuesday night Mets beat Chicago’s Cubs 6 to 2. It was an exciting game. Oddly enough, on a glorious day, the stadium wasn’t packed.  I haven’t been to Shea for a while.  Baseball isn’t my thing, way too slow.  But I enjoy playing baseball or softball, used to play pick up games at Central [...]

Liberty at MSG

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports, View from Bottom

Last Thursday WNBA New York’s Liberty beat Connecticut’s Sun. The Madison Square Garden got renovated few years back. The last few times we were there were all at the suit or box above. It’s ok place. But thought it would have been better. The Garden that night was not even half filled. Guess the [...]

Kang Suh

Walking toward the Korean town from Penn Station, this restaurant is the first on your right.  It uses Broadway as address rather than 32nd Street: 1250 B’way, New York, NY 10001.  It opens 24 hours.  The bbq beef was somewhat ok but the varied appetizers, for the most part, weren’t good, except the kimchi and [...]

Lehman and Citi

This was taken on Monday Sept 15, the day Lehman Brothers went down made public.  Will this still be a Citi Field when it completes, or when the first bat strikes the fast ball next season?   Lehman used to be part of Smith Barney.  Smith Barney is part of Citi now.  The IB looks gloomy.  Lehman Brothers’ [...]

Asianized Veniero’s

Published by The Kibbitzer under Seefood Diet n Wine

My god, there wasn’t a line at Veniero’s but nonetheless a full house. And more than 70% were Asians :) I was one of them!
I got a small cheese cake and eight cannolis. King just got home from school with three buddies. The four little tall men wolfed down all of them with gusto and telling [...]

Live, From New York, It’s (an Animated) Chinatown!

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

The Year of The Fish, a realistic portrayal of New York City’s Chinatown, in a animated movie opens tomorrow at Angelika Film Center in downtown, on Houston Street. I don’t go to Chinatown often, but this movie sounds interesting and could have dinner in Chinatown afterward?

Airports

The wine bar at SEA, Seattle airport.  How could it be?  Those sleek life style thing should dotted ours.  No disrepsect to others.
Are we ever, going to renovate the crumpling JFK, John F. Kennedy International Airport?  Making it pleasing to the eye and functional?  JFK was the first place I encountered when I came to New [...]

Angelo and Maxie’s

Angelo and Maxie’s is a nice steakhouse on Park Avenue South at corner of 19th Street. It has high ceiling and the deco is subtle. The books add warmth to the 30ish retro atmosphere. The oysters and clams are fresh (Balthazar comes to mind). Porterhouse is tender. The restaurant has a decent size.  What I don’t get [...]
