Beethoven’s 6th, Pastoral

Looking at the moon and the ground, listening to Beethoven’s Pastoral, I thought about the centuries old vineyards in France. The shepherds herd the sheep through the rolling hills and meadows.  I’d love to go there again.  France is a great country in term of producing wines and Chanel No. 5, period.

Cross marketing or what? Pianoman wears Adidas. I bet Lang has a lucrative contract than Yuan Meng.  Where is Yundi Li?

The Asian parents ..

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports

Michelle Wie has just skipped a Ladies major in order to play with the boys. She has never won a title with the girls. Many people, pros or fans feel the PGA - men’s tour should have a rule to require girls have to win five Ladies’ title before she could qualify for the boy’s [...]

Loaner ..

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

Piano. Golfer looked very pleased tonight, smiling ear to ear, said, “I think they’re delivering it tomorrow.” The It is his new toy/concubine piano - although I don’t know the sequence of his concubines ranking, the fish, chess, clubs .. .. .. I knew for sure the Lionel trains are out.  It’s odd for a man [...]

The Journeymen

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

We took in two performances this past weekend, The Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre and a piano recital at Mannes College the New School of Music on 150 W 85th Street.  John Cudia was the Phantom. This was my third time. His voice (acting was great too) blew me away. (I saw Les Miserables [...]

Rush 2008

Published by The Kibbitzer under Going Places

I was dragged to the Rush concert at Saratoga NY - SPAC..  A close mind person like me, of course I couldn’t wait for it to finish.  One thing I was impressed with was their punctuality.  Eight o’clock on the ticket, 8 o’clock they showed up on stage.
It’s their intercontinental tour promoting their latest album, [...]

Speak easy

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

I wished that Golfer speaks Chinese, so do my children. But they don’t. And I’m pretty exasperated, especially over my children’s refusal. From time to time, some Chinese friends invited us and they’d assure me that ‘don’t worry’ that they speak English (for the sake of Golfer). I really appreciated their consideration and hospitality, I meant it.
But [...]

Amazon @ Carnegie Hall

The tallest girl I’ve seen
One of the BBQs over the weekend was cancelled, so when someone offered free tickets (Bachiana Chamber Orchestra, conducted/piano by João Carlos Martins. It cost only $2 in the box office anyway; corp sponsors picked up the bulk of it), we ended up going to a concert at Carnegie Hall [...]

Beijing is calling!  Susan Rapp, the former Olympic silver medalist in 1984 is now Susan von der Lippe, mother of 2, at age 42 is trying to qualify for her fourth Olympic! WOW !! You go girl!!  Refreshing and romantic.
A little sad note that she had to sit out in 1980 when she’s 15 (who’s to dispute [...]

PowerSchool, ParentLink, ParentConnect ..

Our school’s web provides many info that used to reach us va snail mails or phone calls, now in a timely manner.  Sounds great, but do we parents need to know all of those, and have they implemented those in a timely manner?
Many years ago, I was more involved with school and the community, joined few committees.  One of [...]

Magnificent!

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

After years of procrastinating, I finally made it to our high school’s opera this past weekend, Mozart’s melodic The Marriage of Figaro.  OOOMMMGGG .. OHMYGOSH!  It’s so professional that for a moment I thought we were at the New York City Opera (don’t kill me, ok?  with the Met’s around, I’ve never attended NYC Opera.), the vocals and [...]

Mao’s poised swan

Published by The Kibbitzer under Celestial Empire

Lou sent this Swan Lake and wondered how can she keep her balance on her toe on the head of the male dancer? Really amazing.  She’s graceful with really nice figure and endless pretty long legs.  The gu lei is handsome too.  Wondering what Tchaikovsky would think of it when he sees the froggies - you’ll have to wait out the [...]

The hot pianist in the Cold War

Van Cliburn was honored at Fort Worth Texas, commerating his winning the first Tchaikovsky International in Moscow in April 1958, the height of cold war between those two countries.  I have always wondered why did he cut his career short.  One look at his plays at Moscow you’ll fall under his spell: aristocrat (America’s answer to Karajan? The Butterfly Lovers

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

The dance is nothing special, but the music she danced to is one of two my most favored concertos out of China.  I bought this CD in Wangfujing - I was just thinking how nice would it be to find a CD with both concertos: Sheng Zhongguo playing the Butterfly Lovers violin concerto and Yin Chengzong on the piano for [...]

Tai Shan

Published by The Kibbitzer under Celestial Empire

Tai Shan is one of Rush’s, written by Neil Peart in the 1980s as he toured the holy mountain in Shandong. ..
High on the sacred mountain
Up the seven thousand stairs
In the golden light of autumn
There was magic in the air
The clouds surrounded the summit
The wind blew strong and cold
Among the silent temples
And the writing carved in [...]
