Charlie’s Angels

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

It’s Charlie’s idea to have it in the city.  The prior meetings had been in my town, for I definitely not willing to make a trip when no one would show up.  I’ve met him couple of times, so the city it was.  How great it was!  And he got all the girls, in all kinds of living color [...]

Strong showing @ Woodie’s

We had our club meeting yesterday with largest showing ever, 8 of us (two more girls!!!), needed time out to get a chance to speak, great rapport and enthusiasm.  San Diego Chapter’s Josey Wales’s record was 26.  I might have to enlist my fellows from China to beat that number,
Megan is cool, a fast talker and [...]

The hot pianist in the Cold War

Van Cliburn was honored at Fort Worth Texas, commerating his winning the first Tchaikovsky International in Moscow in April 1958, the height of cold war between those two countries.  I have always wondered why did he cut his career short.  One look at his plays at Moscow you’ll fall under his spell: aristocrat (America’s answer to Karajan? Eat, drink and sleep in it

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

If you want to be a good trader, you have to live it, said Lisa, a supportive wife of fellow CCIers.  She said I would appreciate it very much.  She’s absolutely on target.  I told her about my English learning experience: early on, I couldn’t even count to ten in English.  To make sure I didn’t miss [...]

The Traders Expo 2008

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

I have long wondered when will Larry Flynt (isn’t that so neat he played the judge in the movie? - love it!) be invited to the party openly - not behind the closed doors, Traders Expo or the likes?  Those two girls at the Expo aren’t Hustler quality, but it’s a good start - the manager of this booth [...]

The range bar trading

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trade of the day, Trading

Woodie has abandon his 5-minute time bar in favor of his new method, range bar based on price trading, Charlie explained.  The timer is gone, in place is the data box.  The new bar would print only after certain movement in that market.  The bar print could be as short a second or as long as, well, [...]

Traders helping traders

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

This is Woodie’s motto.  As the market is crawling at the moment, Woodie told us a story: Nicker needs some help, other than trading.  Donna from the room spent a week at her farm helping out.  3 brothers from the room too, drove 2.5 hours to help her hubby putting up a fence.  Few days ago, she [...]

Bandwidth

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

I’ve been having trouble with my charts for a while.  Every time I called in for tech support, they’ll tell me different story.  Today’s that I need to upgrade my RAM to 2 gb.  RAM, bandwidth, speed, … I know them but I dont.  The chart tech showed me the cnet.com, checking on my bandwidth, which came in the middle [...]

The mentoring program

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

Woodie’s offering one on one mentoring program for a fee with one of the moderators (not himself): few hours at the cost akin to attend his seminar.  The story I heard is that another defector from his camp has set up his own shop - using Woodie’s motto and methods - then few months later began [...]

Insider trading

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

Insider trading is a term that most investors have heard and usually associate with illegal conduct, states the SEC.  But the term actually includes both legal and illegal conduct.  Say I’m buying a stock because the industry or sector has been in the news, I felt it has good value n potential… then it turns out on my restriction [...]

Oh thy hassle

Published by The Kibbitzer under Finances, Trading

I need to sell and buy some stocks.  Few clicks should accomplish the task, simple enough?  No.  Not with Citi culture: it took 13:47 minutes to execute just one transaction, costing me $35 commission on mere 200 shares.  Ok, it’s a Jap stock, so the Citi website won’t take it, has to go thro the human [...]

The speedy Asians

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

We’re looking to place ad on a magazine that circulates primarily in Asia.  I thought it’ll be a snap of fingers to get the rate.  Right?  Wrong.  I e-mailed the editor and the ad person listed on their web site.  After 10 full days, the editor located in Austrialia e-mail back to see if I like the journal.  No, [...]

Symbols

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading

Oh, one more thing about trading futures is confusing is each broker could have different symbols for the same contract traded on the same exchange!  It took me months to realize ….ok … I’m exaggerating, but you get the pic right?  Lord, I know stock only has 1 unique symbol (or number in HK/China … ) … [...]

Risk management

Published by The Kibbitzer under Trading, View from Bottom

When I started learning to drive, the middle-aged man sat to my left (HK drives on the right side) insisted that I stepped on the brake, “just try it … once.” he begged.  Then learning downhill ski, the first thing the season-faced instructor taught us was how to stop.  Call it exit strategy or risk management.  In trading [...]
