Dental Decay in Albany

Silly, silly, silly .. Albany has just passed a bill giving the state dental society control over New York City’s dental society. This is not a tongue twister. The medical doctors’ wallet are not only held by the MBAs, but lobbyists too. Poor thing.

The malpractice

What a shame that US health system and its doctors move ever slowly into the electronic age. I’m still seeing those silly medical careers ads such as billing agent. Give me a break!  The American doctors are reluctant to purchase a system they fear might soon be obsolete.  I sympathize with it.  There are too many ’systems’ to [...]

Shopping time

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine

My learning time. Johnson & Johnson makes the Acuvue. But there are many outlets selling it, price varies per box that contains 6 lens. So I called up the first off the google. 800-Contacts sells $42.99 per box or $303.92 for 8 boxes (after mail-in rebate). When I called, the price dropped to $218.33 for 8 [...]

Desperately seeking a dentist

Help .. Help ..  prospect .. my past, my present and my future .. oh lord hairy toothy decaying, how many dentists do I need to fix those?  I think I’ll need to start to floss and brush maybe every other week?  Tea and wine have stained my teeth, ok, I’ll increase the brush to every other [...]

My criminal record

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine

I got a chance to glance at my file at Dr. Rubin’s office.  The standard issue vanilla folder is very new, and there’s some writing on the upper right corner.  I’d had guessed vital info, like blood type, allergy reaction, weight/height, address/phone, contact person .. .. just in case something happens in a blink?  But no, it recorded [...]

The six goodies

國際會議上定出了6種保健品
第一       綠茶;
第二       紅葡萄酒;
第三       豆漿;
第四       酸奶;人家不提牛奶,您注意啦;
第五       骨頭湯;

Doctor Dolittle

J came to play cards this past Sunday.  I haven’t seen her for a good few years.  Last time was at a ski resort, we had hot pot and well, played cards in the evenings.  She just got divorced then, and the older son (now sophomore in college) lives with dad and she took the [...]

The drug card

I’ve long heard that Americans use drugs.  All kinds of drugs.  Good and bad.  The first time on the Beautiful Country’s soil, I saw Drug Store signs everywhere.  Despite my poor English, I think I wasn’t mistaken ’drug’ for candy.  I wasn’t.

Now there are slew of companies just to manage your drug purchases.  Geee, either I’m [...]

One more dentist

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine

I must have passed Dr. Jeffrey Rubin’s office and his little white singling million times without actually noticing his name, or noticed his name but without committing it to my limited memory.  His office is over looking one of the parks where in the summer time, concerts/bands were often held.  When I rushed in - forgot the appt [...]

More dentists

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine

More dentists.  Dr. Moss’s mission is accomplished.  Now all I need is a dentist to actually put in the tooth, crown (?)  I’m not too happy with Dr. Linsky.  Calls to his office get only 50% return rate (I don’t think I’m the right person to lecture them about customer service.  But it is.  I don’t wish to rub salt on [...]

I’m good to go

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine

I trekked to the Park Avenue for my implant on a snowy day, a last minor procedure.  Dr. Moss was very happy with his creation, exclaiming, “how nice .. look at it .. It’s worked ..”  Did I mention that he put some real bone, contained in a tiny jar - from died human - or I heard it wrong?  [...]

A dispute .. 公说公有理,婆说婆有理

It’s a thumb down for Dr. Robert J. Auerbach of Pediatric Ophthalmology of Greater New York, with a PO box number in Boston, perhaps an agency that managing their billing or other part of administrative stuff?  After recanting the offer, they now will take me to court.  Hiring a lawyer is more than the petty amount [...]

The CPT codes

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine

CPT codes are procedure codes for the medical office to use in filing for their service with the insurers.  And it is thicker than Webster dictionary.
Nancy from Dr. Auerbach’s office offered that they would waive one of the office visit charges since Pumpkin’s 2nd visit cost more $300.  I agreed, waited for the correct bill.  It [...]

Getting paid ..

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine

Pumpkin is fine with her plastic eyes.  We went to visit Dr. Auerbach one more time, checking up on her to see if the fit is fine, which is.  Perhaps don’t have to see him for a year or so.  The first thing he said to me was to apologized for the call they made [...]

The plastic eyes

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine, Saga

When contact lenses first came to market, I heard a geologist mentioned that in rural Vietnam the peasants referred it as the ‘plastic eyes’.  Two years ago, I got a pack of colored contacts from an ophthalmologist, they’re still unopened.  The other day, I found two boxes of contacts, god knows when did I got that.  Maybe I’m missing shots [...]

Doctors

Published by The Kibbitzer under Bitter medicine, Saga

Enjoying Dr. Karl Rove’s timeliness and proximity, I finally decided to leave the pediatrician we’ve had since her birth.  I spent nearly an hour finding a new female Dr, calling from the list generated by the insurance website.  Some are closed to new patient, some aren’t regular pediatricians (why would they be listed there?).  On waiting [...]
