New York Asian Film Festival

“Blissfully free from the constraints of good taste” is how Dave Kehr describes the New York Asian Film Festival, which returns Friday for its seventh annual edition at the IFC Center and Japan Society. “A true enthusiast’s event,” Mr. Kehr adds, “the festival is programmed by a collective of Asian film buffs whose eclectic tastes run from the wildest Korean shoot-’em-ups to the most restrained and contemplative Japanese dramas.” More than 50 features will be screened over two weeks, including “Ip Man,” a biography of the martial arts expert who taught Bruce Lee, and the South Korean drama “Breathless,” not to mention a slew of Japanese horror comedies. NYT pick: “Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl.”
