My fat turkey

my fat 18 lb turkeyHope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Stealing a little time here and there to post. This year’s Thanksgiving was uneventful like last year but is very busy nevertheless. Played some good tennis on Wednesday, hot pot for dinner with friends. Yesterday turned out to be nice so more tennis in the early afternoon. My right wrist is screaming.

My over isn’t working well for a long time and since I don’t bake at all, it was ok. But my family demands turkey. And GE called on Monday to say that the part I was waiting for (the repairman couldn’t fix it without the proper part) is out of stock. So .. my g/f suggested to cook on the stove top and lent me her industrial size pot. I was excited. Asking Pumpkin to fish out a receipt the night before.

[The flowers are from last season and came back this year .. I’m elated.]my flowers .. yaaaaa
She first gave me the look.
Then type, type type.
“Receipt for stove top cooking is receipt for disaster.” She read out loud.
That’s encouraging.
My mother-in-law graciously offered to cook at her house.
We were going to have a traveling turkey this year.
Image that.
Golfer’s whole family is coming: his older sister (and family) is coming to town from Shanghai (who loves good Turkey on Thanksgiving and hasn’t had one since they moved to Asia 20 years ago) to attend his younger sis’s wedding this Saturday.

My buddies began calling for work and I thought: what’s the heck, I’ll try my erratic oven to save a trip to my in-laws. After few attempts it worked. Yupppie. This year I used 天津冬采 Tianjin dongcai, stuffed an apple and onion into the bird’s belly, and some ingredients that I should not disclose here. The bird tasted great. Even it’s only mom said so. King made mashed potato with broccoli and yams with pineapple. Pumpkin did the gravy.

Over all, it’s tennis saved the day.
