There is something weird in the world of gastronomy, or epicurious (for those who love to eat and know how to eat ..) Sandwich, in most part, in the west, is quick belly filler when you don’t have time nor money to indulge. However, it was (is it still nowadays?) a gourmet in China for decades if not a century. MD Chow treasured it at his board meetings in Shanghai in the republic era, and I had it in the 60s: bread (sourdough bread?), canned sardine plus beer, in the Summer Palace or other outings. Liu Mama in particular loved it.
I hope.
Now looking back, I’m amused.
