In his hometown, Mao a source of pride

The 60th birthday comes tomorrow. Yup, China is 60 years old. Here are some pictures that captured the mood at the moment. Celebrations are abundant in the city – New York. SHAOSHAN, China (CNN) — “Mao is very great and famous, and he saved the whole of China,” exclaims an 18-year-old woman from Wuhan in […]

Some forms of tennis

Published by under View from Bottom

Those school tennis courts have been renovated recently. Same court different times: 2005 vs 2009. Don’t think my game has improved much. In all honesty, as long as all my body parts agree to work together – not go on DL, I’m a happy camper. Bending the Knees .. good jumps .. Keep eye on […]

IT is the dress, she said, that catches the eye, the long silk sheath with the slits in the sides that offers what she calls “a startling panorama of the entire landscape of the female form.” .. “No other costume has quite managed this unique come hither/get lost blend,” she wrote in the 1993 book, […]

The Star Ferry and the South Ferry

Published by under View from Bottom

Left: A Star Ferry carries passengers across Victoria Harbour. This particular one is painted with an advertisement that promotes Hong Kong as Asia’s World City. I enjoyed the ferry a lot while in Hong Kong. The Central terminal is one of my favored meeting places with friends. The ferry operates from Hong Kong island (Central […]

Staples sells hairdos

Published by under View from Bottom

School started late this year, on 9/9/2009 because Labor Day started late – the latest it can be because September began on a Tuesday. We went to shopping for school supplies a week prior to the start. The line was long, as usual and was expected. The store however was less in chaos. While waiting […]

Snake w/ foot found in China

Published by under View from Bottom

Thought have seen it all, or nearly all? Not yet. Don’t be so jaded so soon. A lady found a snake with foot in her bedroom in Suining 遂宁 in Sichuan province China. Is this for real? In any case, China has an idiom: 画蛇添足 huashe tianzu – draw a snake and add feet to […]

Pumpkin’s making. King once told Lee that when he goes off to college, he’s sure that his mom would rent a room next to his dorm. Looking at this delicious thing, I’m wondering .. Why not?

Visiting the cemetery

I visited my ancestors’ grave at Wan An Cemetery 北京万安公墓 on Aug 5th, 2003. Uncle Philip came to visit from Jakarta. His first time in China, despite the fact that he’s been living in Asia for more than two decades. After his sting in Hong Kong, he made home in Jakarta and started his own […]

Gin + raisins -> Arthritis ..

A gorgeous book

Those pages are beautiful! The Holy Grail of the Unconscious, This is a story about a nearly 100-year-old book, bound in red leather, which has spent the last quarter century secreted away in a bank vault in Switzerland. Women are getting unhappier

Published by under View from Bottom

Maureen Dowd told her friend Carl. “How can you tell?” Carl deadpanned. .. “Because you care,” he replied with a mock sneer. “You have feelings.” Which group of women Madam Dowd is talking about? And based on what criteria? And through her Americanized micro magnifier? I found many American versions are often obscured and marginalized. […]
