A Stupid Question

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports, View from Bottom

There was a little tense moment at French Open’s 3rd round match between Serena Williams vs a Spanish player, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez: first set (2:2), Serena was serving at 30:40. Martinez Sanchez charged the net and was hit by Williams’ return. The ball first bounced off Sanchez’s right arm (she’s lefty) .. [...]

Fish soup in Masaya market

After tennis and downtown Granada, we had lunch at Masaya market on Sunday in Nicaragua. We were the only eaters. Seven adults with a 6 years old. The bill came at US$122. The fish soup was good.

The live-in virgins

I had little chat with Lee. One of her daughters is Protestant and has three daughters. All three girls are living with boy friends. But Lee’s daughter insisted that her daughters are still virgins, just living with the guys, well, without having sex.
Lee rolled her eyes.
I laughed.
Ya, right.

Nadal and the attached strings

Rafael Nadal is pounding the earth with Hewitt, taped delayed. He wears yellow bands, pink shirt and grey short. And he still fudges with his G-string. Might be it’s time to introduce him to C-string? Raf hasn’t changed much over the years, still very humble and energetic; a small town boy, intense but donw [...]

The French Open

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports, View from Bottom

This year’s top ranking players for the Open ..
Men: Nadel, Federer, Murray and Djokovic
Women: Safina, Serena, Venus and Dementieva
Venus is out already. The sisters are playing the doubles at the moment: 2:6, 6:1 and Serena is serving at 4:1. Seeing them over powering the other set of girls, I feel good. Sorry [...]

The Spring Concert II

I missed King’s concert last Wednesday, the Spring Concert I. There is III next Wednesday.
Our school’s music program has mushroomed over the years, very quickly. The director, Michael Schwartz mentioned that when he joined the school in 1992:  there were only 42 students. Just this II concert (on 5/27) had over 150 students.
Sharon Lee is [...]

Sonia Sotomayor

By Raymond Hernandez and David W. Chen
In the 1980s, the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (which recently changed its name to LatinoJustice PRLDEF) sued the New York City Police Department, claiming that its promotion exams discriminated against Latinos and African-Americans.
The fund, one of the advocacy groups pressing similar cases across the country, also [...]

‘Father Oprah’ Joins Episcopal Church

Father Oprah the Rev. Alberto Cutie (KOO’-tee-ay) opts for a girl than the god. Wise move. At the end of a day, a warm bodied human simply trumps over a remote being. And thanks god he likes woman .. .. just to think about the innocent boys being molested over the years [...]

China’s Sun shining in Japanese basketball league

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports, View from Bottom

Sun Mingming is a little man that measures only 7′9” short.
Not sure it’s good for the basketball game: fineness vs freak show.
I think people would like to see a normal man to compete, not overly gifted. The Avery rule shows the same sentiment. What’s fair is fair. Human couldn’t go against the [...]

Massage

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

Foot rub has a new name: Foot Reflexology Massage. It sounds so PC – political correct and green. Pardon me for my poor English. The method has definitely improved over the years. The first time I had it was nearly decade ago in Chinatown, in a dingy basement. It was just a simple foot [...]

Eduardo Castro-Wright

A very good interview on the Sunday Times’ Business section, with Eduardo Castro-Wright, vice chairman of Wal-Mart Stores ..
Q. What have you learned to do more of, or less of, over time?
A. I read something early on when I was in my first or second management role that you can accomplish almost anything in life [...]

April Showers Bring May Flowers

We had quite few rainy days this year. But Sandy’s flowers and gardens in that matter, has less to do with weather and much ado with her and her green thumbs. I had the sweetest asparagus and ate it raw; made cold noodles with freshly cut chives, very yummmmy – thanks Sandy.
I asked [...]

Not long ago, Fred Franzia celebrated the sale of the four-hundred-millionth bottle of Charles Shaw, a wine that costs $1.99 at Trader Joe’s and is known by the chummy nickname Two Buck Chuck. “Take that and shove it, Napa,” he said. “Four hundred million and [...]

The credit mess

Few weeks ago, Amex informed me, through a pre-recorded phone call that my line of credit is being reduced by 62%. Whatever.
Last week, another credit card sent me a letter saying since I rarely used up the line of credit they provided so they’re cutting back a little, 50%. WhatEver.
Thinking about the imminent [...]

Hong Kong in pictures

Some old pictures of Hong Kong ..
