Lost in Translation? A Swede’s Snub of U.S. Lit
It’s the Nobel Prize season.
What consideres as a literature?
Wikipedia said Literature is the art of written works.
Webster explains it as the production of literary work especially as an occupation.
I think of book when I see or hear literature, and understand it very well that your taste differs from mine. Hence we are having millions upon billions of books out there. Measuring art is very difficulty. Don’t you just like math and swimming more that you win clearly?
Who’s to judge Milan Kundera’s are lit and Danielle Steele’s aren’t? Is the highbrow beating out the commercial success? It happens that Gao Xingjian’s Swede translator Goran Malmqvist is one of 18 Nobel judges who serve for life. And I often wondered doesn’t the translator gets any part of the credit?
