I took this pic during the trip this past August in Skagway, the last of the three port of calls.
People or media are predicting that Sarah Palin will soon run for higher office, president of the United States of America herself. Lord, are they blind or what? I’ll vote for Hillary many times over before [...]

One spring morning in 1986, I woke up feeling weary. The tropical sun was already up high. For a good sleeper I always couldn’t wait to get up, full of energy, ready to head off to the Hong Kong’s Repulse Bay beach for a swim. But that morning I found the bed beneath my body [...]

I can’t believe such store still exist, M & J Trimming is a throwback but has a very fresh feel to it, on 6th Avenue. It’s lively too - the night before Halloween. Laces, trims, fringe, jacquards, neiheads, ribbons, rhinestones, sequins, beads, buckles, buttons, cords, handbag handles,.. the entire whole nine yards!

I went to LIWG’s free workshop this afternoon, my second time. Last week I went with Elise. Two published ladies (Beverly poetry and Florence memoir) moderate the gathering. Each of us gets to read our piece, almost identical to what I did with Ginny at the writing class. It’s more supportive than critical, I think [...]

Please forgive me if I sound small minded and ignorant .. that China took so much heat for being associated with Sudan over Darfur, yet Sudan could not return the 9 Chinese hostages, and three are confirmed dead. Would I jeopardize the relationship with my patron or benefactor? Hell no. So, here I’m thinking China [...]

I was updating the Block of Four stamp and came to face MD Chow’s acquisition of it again. I had written about his throny pass to the ultimate prize, the BoF that had elevated him to be the King of Chinese Philately.
R. A de Villard 费拉尔 was the original owner of this rarity. [...]

Last year Giants played Miami Dolphins, and yesterday the New Orleans Saints played the San Diego Chargers at London’s Wembley Stadium again.
The names for the pro teams are sometimes baffling. Chargers? How about letting the Steelers play the Packers in London? The Europeans sure would have a field day. Jaguars, Panthers .. sound so much [...]

I use oil every day but don’t understand it: how can the producers say how much they wanted to be paid? Doesn’t the market dictate the price?
“Iran, which has aggressively used oil revenue to pay for expensive social programs, wants prices above $90. Venezuela, which is also using the money to finance allied governments in [...]

Benny is a lawyer, writer, actor and economist, and pretty funny. But do people really take him seriously? Every time I see some one with a long running titles, I pause.
His young make up artist has no savings.
“What if they don’t have any savings?” she [the make up artist] asked [Benny]. “I don’t have any savings,” [...]

Two stories in the Times: Council Backs Bloomberg Bid to Run Again and the only editorial of the day Barack Obama for President.

When the western journalists starting writing about certain Chinese delicacy, I don’t think it has arrived, but rather over cooked. Just another day, someone sent those e-mail stuff, one was warning about - Chinese mitten crab, Eriocheir sinensis, also known as the big binding crab (大閘蟹) and Shanghai hairy crab (上海毛蟹) - whatever you call [...]

It’s routine that Taiwanese constituents being entertained by their elected officials to fight it out in the ring. Now an envoy from China being pushed to the ground is unacceptable. Regardless they’re rival or not.
