Software and hardware
A friend just came back from China. He has an apartment in Shanghai for five years or so. Initially it was managed by a British company from Hong Kong. This year, it changed to a local firm. For not much cheaper. But the small residential community in Xuhui changed a lot. There was a dry cleaning store opened inside. The doormen put a bed in the lobby with curtain enclosed. Yes, they wold go napping when they’re tired. .. .. In case it is not clear, the dry cleaner and the beds in the lobbies are NO, no, no, inappropriated, down right rude.
Another friend commented that when he asked for an extra towel in a five star hotel in Shanghai, the hotel’s initally response was, “didn’t we give you one already?” then demanded to know what/why does he need the second one. You can build 5-star or 8-star in that matter hotels all you want/can, but where do you find the stars to staff it?!
I have no doubt that the top 5% people in Shanghai are ultra sharp and are moving the world. But I don’t feel the rest 95% could keep up with it. That’s a huge problem. Hardware needs software to run. China clearly doesn’t have it. 驴粪球表面光.
When Li Hongzhang signed the humilating treat, the first thing the Jap did was to fund more schools. When China has little money, they rush to build sky scrapers while schools are collapsing, and kids are dying.
The Olympics .. might not turn out as China planned. The wise thing for China to do, is to find out who’s behind the Tibet riot and stop it. It’s not the rock star in orange robe, the Lama doesn’t have that reach.
I’m not sure why they should stop the Tibetans from rioting. Self-determination. They aren’t Chinese but the want freedom!
