Tiger Woods wins

Tiger just cliched his 14th, only four behind Jack Nicklaus’ record 18 majors. He beat out a 45-years old journeymen Rocco Mediate. The trading floors on Wall Street almost stopped this afternoon, :). My first reaction was, oh too bad. Because I’d like to see Rocco to win - he’ll never come close to this again.  Tiger would, and on top of that, he’s already won so many.

We all love to watch the thoroughbred Woods play - all powerful, all beautiful.. .. but deep down, if there is an underdog comes alone, we’ll all root for him. Same reason sentimentally, US doesn’t get much support around the world. Everyone wants something from US, large or small.  But they don’t necessarily cheer for US.  They’ll display their ressentiment foremost. The downside of joining the superpower club.

Just an observation: Pete Sampras (1971 -) had won a record 14 slams during his 14 years (1988-2002) on the tour. Roger Federer (1981 - ) who turned pro in 1998, has won 12. Jack Nicklaus (1940 -) professional career spanned 25 years, from 1962 to 1986. Hmmmmm
