18 years for two deaths .. justice?

Does this drunk driver who’s serving 18-year sentence at a correctional center in New York and is now appealing his case, deserve death penalty?  I think he does: two people died and families are ruined.  US doesn’t believe in death penalty, but if the law permits, that drunk driving that killed carries death penalty, I would think it’s more effective than mandatory ignition interlock devices.

I couldn’t help but recall the conversation I had with my friends in Beijing at dinner time.  The drivers would not touch a drop of alcohol, and I knew they’re good drinkers.  They would visibly stiffen, told me that if they get caught, the police would confiscate their cars.  I joked, “don’t worry, Giuliani isn’t the mayor here.”  They looked at me seriously, “this isn’t joking matter!”  Apparently a car worth a lot more to them so they took notice and obey the law.  18 years for two humans .. a slap on the hand, so lame, that’s a joke.
