It’s a thin line
I asked our principal his opinion on ranking (or not) the kids in the class and the thinking behind it. Few mothers immediately said, “oh, I won’t want that ..” Wait a second, I’m asking the opinion of an educator, not yours, could you please let him to explain? He danced around topic, saying too much pressure already, .. eventually he admitted that it’s thin line. This is what I had hoped for.
Our current principal is rather new, on the job for only four years. I met him when he first got here. He started as a teacher at Westport CT, then rose to principal. As he was retiring, one day he spotted our school ad on the New York Times, so he applied. “I’m not ready to retire to Florida, taking that early bird dinner at discount. My wife and I moved to the city (Manhattan) and having great time. ..” I don’t know him well at all, but few times we met, I found him to be reasonable and respectable.
