Marriage and shoes
I went to a ballroom dancing party the other night in jeans. Katie’s friend, actually her mother-in-law’s friend was performing and she was there to lend her support at cost of $40 per person. I kidded her, “60+ years old? She ought to pay me to watch her ..”
I thought it’s a dinner party with a floor in the middle for the devotees to kick their legs. Turned out to be a dancing hall, with booths on both sides, box dinner. The lady was there with her supporting cast, the entire family, son, daughter-in-law and her grandson.
I would guess that it’s the teacher’s way of promoting his business, make his devotees’ pay for his party, hence themselves to performance - otherwise, how on earth would there be an audience for them? A perfect solution for those who dressed up with no where to go.
There was a good looking woman who’s little known singer back in
Shenzhen’s karaoke bars (?). Her outfit was average, in line with the crowds. But her shoes looked utterly uncomfortable: her red pained-toes sticking out by large margin as if touching the floor. It gave me goosebumps: what if her husband or the partner steps on it - which the chances are high in ball room dance, especially they’re beginners? .. I smiled to myself, look at those couples, predominantly over 50, taking on new hobbies .. relationship inures people and marriages are like shoes, only the wearers know the fitting to be perfect or not. How we perceive is secondary. Or was it?
