His brother’s keeper

Published by The Kibbitzer at 6:08 pm under View from Bottom

As we were having a drink with few friends, one’s brother called. He got arrested in the city, had fight or something with some one or a few. The friend put down his beer and left in a hurry.

I meant to tell his whole story for a while, just never got to it, only partial in the past. He has three older brothers and one younger one who just called. His parents divorced while he’s in sophomore at Cornell. Neither parents wanted anything to do with the youngest child, so he had to take care of him. Smuggled the kid in and out of his dormitory till he had to drop out of school in his senior year, due to no tuition. He somewhat managed to finished his engineering degree at Cornell. Worked for couple of years till he realized that he hated engineer. So he went back to Cornell, picked up a law degree there. Now makes a living as attorney. For the younger bro, live doesn’t seem to be normal or rosy. He acts like a punk, having no permanent job .. The three older brothers are all doing fine, one is a very successful businessman in Hong Kong.

When I heard his story, bit here and piece there, my heart went out for the youngest. What kind of parents would leave their cub in the cold, unattended? How could they burden their child? It’s just unthinkable, the parents should be punished!
