China gets bad rap
So it not just me crying foul. Gideon Rachman said that [But] China’s growing power also creates anxiety. This would be true even if China were a model democracy. Great powers attract unease and resentment simply because of their size. Even some American allies were discomfited by the chants of “USA” at the Los Angeles and Atlanta Olympics. ..
The caption begins with ‘China’s final preparations for the Olympics shifted into high gear yesterday [the newspaper dated 4/1/2008] with the launch of the official torch relay, amid rising anxiety and anger in Beijing that the high-profile event will be dogged by progests over Tibet and other issues. ..’ I don’t know about others, but I think the angerin the caption means the Chinese feeling angry. I understand that. It’s been a dream and honor to host an Olympics, economical gains aside. Given the rise of China, it’s really their coming out party and there are plenty people/special interest groups wanting to ruin it. Rain on my parade? Heck, I’m angry. The most incendiary calling is the boycott, over human right and now Tibet. Tibet’s riot is probably instigated by those special interest groups. Just wondering where is Richard Gere? .. I doubt that China would give in on the fact of the disruption of torch relay. They didn’t give in on currency.
