Dad said he went to Korea during the War. “Really?” I could feel my eyes were widened. How cool!
“My 团长 regimental commander liked me so much [as a basketballer], he specifically requested me. ..”
Oh, the Americans have Marilyn Moore or Mariah Carey and we Chinese prefer Yao Ming, for entertainment. Pretty cool n masculine.
“I dropped to the floor the first time I heard a cannon.” :) .. Mao’s dead and Dad was safely tucked in at the Bay area. So let the truth be told.
“One afternoon, I went to the Yalu River for a swim. Just as I was about to enter the water, there came a fleet of American fighter planes.” I could see my eyes were widened again. “They flew very low. .. I locked eyes with the pilots. ..” He’s my Dad and I was taught to trust him,
