Taike

Taiwan, in some people eyes are forging a new identity after long years in the shadow of China.  I thought the moment had long passed, IF it didn’t find its identity when fathers were beaten up by their sons in China, and innocent people were prosecuted for stating truth that didn’t fit emperor Mao’s taste.  It is just sound silly that Taiwan is seeking independence now.  What had it been then?  Whom did they depend on?  Taike is a derogatory term mainlanders - who had fled to the Island with Jiang Jieshi in 1949 - used to describe local Taiwanese as uneducated country bumpkins, which I think largely they are.  Without Jiang and his mainlanders, Taiwan would still be the fishery.  Don’t they know that standard Mandarin adds a lot sophistication to their otherwise taikey image?
