$2m man on campus

And he’s not an athlete - William Brody, the president of the Johns Hopkins is the highest paid university head in the country, last year earning close to $2m in pay and benefits.  Revenge of the Nerds?  Not really, the coaches still getting paid far more, Saban earns $4m a year for 8 years, guaranteed.  (It’s mind boggling that universities pay their coaches more than their presidents, sure the corporates don’t pay their recreation directors more than their CEOs .. but this is America .. .. )  But still it’s nice to see the conductors and college heads becoming millionaires from their day gig.  Not every artist needs to suffer for his love of art and not every scholar needs to be broke to be taken serious.

A friend dropped by for tea this Sunday, happened her son is junior at JH, “very happy …”  He interned with Google in the city this past summer.  “They offered him a full time job, or at least come back next summer.”  At the moment, Microsoft is flying him over for an interview.  “He complains that it isn’t a software development job.  But I told him go for the ride since they’re courting you.  Google made him do spreadsheet which he knew nothing about but ended up liking it. .. ..”  Have an open mind.
