The Phantom of the O’Perry

Published by The Kibbitzer at 12:01 pm under View from Bottom

Perry is an Attorney at Law, whom I have never met, but receiving his correspondence for the past decade, if not longer.  He files petition on your behave, reducing your property assessment.  I don’t remember when and why I signed up with him, for there are large contingent of such firms/lawyers sending your forms to sign, warning you to sign with them only.  Over the years, his letters are always concise, plain and pleasant.  If there are forms needed to be returned, he always attaches a postage paid envelope.  I always signed it - regardless what he asked for - as soon as I opened, and mailed out soon after, so it won’t cluster my in box.  Look him up in my records, he managed two reductions for me so far.  Then few months ago, I got a letter indicating that he’s going to sue me for non payment.  Didn’t his fee always satisfy from my refund?  He gets the fund, deducts his fee, then reimburses me the rest.  So I ignored it.  Yesterday, got another letter from him.  Not telling me where we stand on this law suit, but a form to sign that to designate his office to file, verify and serve in 2008 any petitions and or … sans payment.  Hasn’t he learned anything in the past?  The old matter hasn’t been solved and here he’s, asking me to retain him on the identical task that he said I failed to pay him.  What kind of lawyer is he?  A law degree seems wasteful for this type of challenge.  I’d think he mostly needs a tremendous powerful database to manage this line of work, more administrative than anything else.
