Bordeaux, Burgundy, .. Beijing?

The map of wine country has been dramatically redrawn according to the latest edition of The World Atlas of Wine.  One fine 2004 Merlot/Cab is actually from Shanxi, selling 388 RMB (about $48), by Grace vineyard.  Gosh, last time in Beijing, Yizang took me to the market shopping for dinner.  On the way out, I grabbed a bottle of red.  After setting up the table, I mindlessly read the bottle while he’s cooking, did I realized the producer added sugar.  They inject sugar into wine!!!  Forgot if they added vinegar too.  Sheshi.  The dinner was great, the spoiled brat/artist is a very decent chef, :).  He lived in Europe for couple of years with his lover, so he knows something about wine.  We joked about the wine we had growing up with: Vermouth 味美斯.  How the heck the sweet vermouth found it way to our tables was way beyond me.  We drunk it alone, in glasses that escaped the hands of the red guards.  The global warming or climate changing might just give China some edge to compete in viticulture.
