US Open .. the girls

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports

Do girls dress up at Flushing Meadow?  My random takes, missed few Park Avenue princess, :).  Serena was like sleep walk, as if she didn’t want to be there.  But managed to win in 2 sets.  Justin Gimelstob won his doubles in 2 sets too.  The crowds loved him.  The fun part of the [...]

See ya in Sept

Published by The Kibbitzer under Current Affairs, Saga

Bizwk says that the National Retail Federation predicts that back-to-college sales will increase 9% over last fall to $956.93 per student, or $47.3 billion.  Are they kidding me??  Kids nowadays armed with laptop, MP3, cell, PDA, webcam etc.  Yesterday I went to shopping for school supplies with Pumpkin, a middle schooler, without any of the above, I [...]

Double framed

Published by The Kibbitzer under Genealogy Research

Ha, my double mat is done.  I’m happy with it.  The thinner frame vs wider one is good decision, IMHO - not taking too much off the map and the bond.  And I have a great spot for it.  What do you think??  I’m ready for my next project.

Migrant money opens up another passage to India

.. .. it is India’s first privately held international airport and the country’s first big infrastructure project to harness the wealth of the non-resident Indian community. .. ..
It is now highly profitable. Passenger traffic grew by more than one-third last fiscal year to nearly 3m and there are plans to build an airport city consisting [...]

Hospitals in China

Published by The Kibbitzer under Celestial Empire

If you are Chinese, try very hard not to be ill.  I shall add ‘in China’.  Last time in Beijing, I went to lunch with my aunt/uncle with their friends, a couple: he’s heart surgeon, my uncle’s former #2 and she’s director of ophthalmology at the same hospital, on the same floor with my aunt, an OBGY.  When my [...]

What a shame

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

Of course any public places, you have to deal with those .. what a trash!  As if there isn’t a garbage can.  Even if there isn’t one, you can still hold your junk and throw it way when you see one.  One of the awkward moments are when someone you know littering: opens up [...]

Golf

Published by The Kibbitzer under Kronicle, Sports

I once heard that golf stands for gentleman only lady forbid.  It’s been a long time since I step onto a golf course.  As King’s camp winding down, they played their finale at the Clearview public course.  The weather was beautiful with refreshing gentle breeze, the surrounding is serene (even adjacent to the highway), the grass and [...]

US Open 2007

Published by The Kibbitzer under Sports

I saw Yan Zi  in Toronto when she wore the identical same multi-color shoes, rather odd strokes, but out played Ana Ivanovic sharply.  Sizable buddies turned up there, few of them I haven’t seen in years!  Lord.  Group of them went to lunch with her last years, and said she only speaks Sichuan dialect and [...]

Philadelphia

Published by The Kibbitzer under Current Affairs

Philly is trying to become the world’s mural capital.  For reason unbeknown to me, graffiti is associated with crime.  There are perhaps a hundred of common motives for people to migrate to New York.  For me, among the few, actually one was the artistic graffiti that made me wanting to settle in New York.  And till this [...]

The 10th

Diana’s 10th anniversary is fast approaching.  Time asked why she still matters.  I’m not sure she mattered at all, even when she was alive, aside from the paparazzi who wanted her pic so they could send their kids to college.  Sure she’s beautiful, but she’s also a girl with few intellectual interests or ambitions, but whose [...]

Poetry in the rain 诗雨

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

诗雨 is 100 days old, soooo cute.  My friend couldn’t stop talking about this bundle of joy.  “So has she called you Dad yet?”  He laughed, “in your dream.  She’s only few months old.”  More laugh.  Has the mother back at her desk?  “I told her to stay home .. 在家给我带孩子.“  Laughed more.  Then asked me [...]

Tree house

Published by The Kibbitzer under View from Bottom

Another kind of high-rise, lol.  It is making a vengeful come back, with all the trapping of conventional houses: double glazing, insulation, electricity, broadband and plumbing, kitchenette, ample living space, hi-tech amenities .. Geeee, my planned but never got executed tree house now looked like a kid play.  And my kids said why bother, it’ll [...]
