What’s in a name?

Published by The Kibbitzer at 11:07 am under View from Bottom

It never occurred to me that the nicknames I bestowed to my kids are inappropriate, not uplifting, uninspiring, with bad connotation.. ..  Maomao, a friend pointed it out, and asking would I call them stupid and why not.  Hmmmm, there lays the drastic difference between two cultures.  In all honesty, Nainai (the hottest courtesan from Shanghai) lovingly dabbed me, among others, 小狗屁,小屎蛋,小臭臭,小笨蛋,丑八怪, 小煤球 ..  Little Dog Fart, Little Popo, Little Stinky, Little Stupid, Little Ugly, Little Briquet .. .. There won’t be any scientific evidence to prove that I had been impeded by them, but now I know why I’m such a failure in life, :).

“If you were programmed by your family to believe you are great, you would …  believe you are great.  And you _might_ be a more powerful and successful person with this attitude.”  Maomao went on to say that humility can be taught without injecting negative thought, especially to a youth, and proposed His Royal Highness King Energetic and Her Royal Highness Queen Lightning (they laughed and thought it’s cool.  I had seizure just to think without even actually pronouncing, too much like tongue twister.  Heck my tongue get caught just to mutter my own short name).  He may know something I don’t: his son chose his alma mater Princeton, starting this Sept.  So I gathered he’s happy, proud and relieved, can 风骚一番, and on top of all that, probably had a great day at trading, or on the court … :))  Okay, seriously, it’s quite thoughts provoking: how far can brain-wash go, without tad of talent, hard work and luck?  Are Americans’ confidence or arrogance was instilled by their parents or society at large?  On the other hand, parent/teacher’s influence is very profound for I used to deny that Nainai had swayed me in anyway and I never seek my dad’s approval…

Soooo, what should be their new nicknames?  HRH KE n HRH QL?  WM as Wii Master and CAP as … JAP?  … ??  Dear Abby or Auntie Ruth, help me out here, pleeaase?  My imagination is limited, so is my language skill.  Oh, I told Frank this … that I often 词不达意 the words fail to convey the idea.  His excuse for my short coming: English language has a problem .. .. :))
