The lover

Marguerite Duras’s The Loverwas based on her own story, even the muddy Mekong River suddenly became romantic.  My favored actor Tony Leung 梁家辉 vividly played the leading man, a husky voiced woman narrated (was it Duras herself?), sad but memorable and enjoyable.

What makes a great lover, imho … is the one who’s true and decent to the end.  Can’t say the same for Lord Browne.  The Americans are not big on titles, but Browne began as an university student and ended up as its CEO at BP in a 40-year run was remarkable, every bit an American success story.  And his fall from grace is resonate with Americans that his former lover’s sold his story to the newspaper … Should he step down is entirely another story to debate.  But what amuse me is how could this happen?  Could he have predicted the ending when he embarked on this 4-year affair and how did he pick/treat his former lover?
