WeiLiang Chow 周炜良 (1911 - 1995; Shanghai - Baltimore)

Former Chairman of the Mathematics Department of the Johns Hopkins University, was tutored at home until he moved to the United States at the age of 16. He attended Asbury College and the University of Kentucky, received his B.A. at the University of Chicago, PhD in Mathematics at the University of Leipzig in 1936. He returned to Nanjing where he was a professor at Central University until the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese war, at that time moving to Shanghai until after the war. He returned to the US in 1947. After a year as a member at the Institute for Advanced Studies at Princeton, he became a Professor at the Johns Hopkins University where he remained until his retirement in 1977.
He’s a profound student of Chinese philately.
